About San Miniato
The Advanced Studies Institute will be held at the Conference Center "I Cappuccini," an old monastery owned and recently renewed by the Cassa Di Risparmio di San Miniato SpA. The site is about 2/3 Km from San Miniato, an ancient town whose roots are back to the Etrurian and Roman age, with a castle built in the 10th Century. San Miniato is located half a way between Florence and Pisa (see map).
Travel
The Pisa Airport G. Galilei is served by Air France, Alitalia, British Airways, Air Dolomiti, Ryanair, Gandalf, Transavia, Meridiana, Lufthansa, and NorthWest. A train service connects the airport station to Empoli about every one hour. In front of Empoli Railway Station you will find a minibus meeting the main trains from about 15.00 pm until 20.00 pm on Sunday Sept. 30. If you need, phone the reception [Tel: +39 0571 418216].
Alternatively, there are domestic and international flights from the major European airports to Florence Airport. From Florence Airport, you will need to take a shuttle bus to Florence Santa Maria Novella Railway Station, from where you may take a train to Empoli.
Coming by train, you have to change at Florence or Pisa, and stop at Empoli Railway Station to take the bus.
Coming by
car from Florence: take Highway A1 (a.k.a. E35), exit at Firenze Signa and
take the road to Pisa/Livorno. Exit at San Miniato and follow the signs to
San Miniato Alto.
Coming by car from Pisa: go to the airport and take the main road to
Florence. Exit at San Miniato and follow the signs to San Miniato
Alto.
Accommodation
The conference center offers student accommodations in double room only. Alternatively, single rooms are available at Hotel Miravalle, in the center of San Miniato (about 2.5Km from the conference center). Hotel accommodation is not recommended, unless you can bring your own car.
